Small Kitchens, Thoughtfully Planned

These compact kitchen projects are from the early years of our practice, at a time when the idea of a “modular kitchen” was still relatively new. Rather than following a fixed system, the focus was on careful planning, material balance, and making the most of limited space.

Both kitchens use a light wood tone paired with stainless steel laminate finishes for the cabinetry, creating a neutral palette that feels warm yet practical. Handmade tiles in a soft beige shade were specially sourced to bring texture and subtle variation to the space, adding character without overwhelming the small footprint.

Given the long and narrow proportions typical of compact kitchens, storage was concentrated along one side. Extra-tall cabinets were designed to function as a full-height pantry, allowing the remaining space to stay visually open and easy to move through. This approach helped maximise storage while keeping the kitchen efficient, uncluttered, and comfortable for everyday use.

These projects reflect an early exploration of kitchen design—where thoughtful layout, honest materials, and attention to proportion mattered more than labels or trends.
